Chennai: On behalf of the corporation, the work of constructing a road for a length of 226 km out of Rs.172 crores and 70 lakhs is in progress. A committee consisting of IAS officers and engineers has been formed under the leadership of the commissioner to monitor and ensure the quality of these road works.
In this regard, a press release issued by the Chennai Corporation has stated that: In the areas under the Chennai Corporation, a work order has been issued to construct 125 km of roads out of Rs.68 crores and 70 lakhs under the Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Fund and Savings Fund and 101 km of roads under the Singhara Chennai 2.0 project out of Rs.104 crores. Out of a total cost of Rs.172 crores and 70 lakhs, 1,110 roads in a length of 226 km are being constructed.

A committee headed by the Commissioner has been constituted to monitor these works. The team consists of Joint Commissioner (Works), Regional Deputy Commissioners, Chief Engineers and Superintending Engineers. They have been instructed to conduct inspections at night where the work is being carried out and ensure that quality roads are constructed.
The team said that when the road construction work is going on, appropriate barricades should be set up and traffic should be diverted. Before the work, the existing road should be excavated to the required extent.

The depth of the excavated road and the height of the constructed road should be checked. The quality of tar mix and its packing date should be checked. Corporation Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi has advised that the temperature of tar mix used should be checked at 140 to 160 degrees Celsius. It has been said.
