Chennai: S. Balachandran, Head of South Zone of India Meteorological Center has said that steps are being taken to provide accurate weather forecasts through artificial intelligence technology in Tamil Nadu.
On a trial basis, the Chennai Meteorological Center started last year to provide weather forecasts at the zonal level in Chennai and at the taluk level in the area under the Chennai Metropolitan Development Corporation. In this regard, S. Balachandran, South Zone Head of Indian Meteorological Research Center said: In the past, weather forecasts were given for North Tamil Nadu, South Tamil Nadu, Central Tamil Nadu and Coastal Tamil Nadu. Due to the development of information technology, we are now providing weather forecasts at the district level.
In the next step we are providing regional and taluk level weather forecasts for Chennai and suburbs on trial basis. This is possible based on the now popular artificial intelligence technology and data available from radar data, rain gauges and automated weather stations.
