Chennai: A caveat petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by Edappadi Palaniswami in the AIADMK leadership case.
AIADMK general committee meeting was held at Chennai Vanagaram on 11th July last. Palaniswami was selected as the interim general secretary. Then O. Panneerselvam went to the party headquarters in Rayapetta with his supporters.
As the doors of the office were locked, a riot broke out between the supporters of O. Panneerselvam and Palaniswami. Subsequently, the Revenue Commissioner sealed the AIADMK head office. Separate cases were filed in the High Court on behalf of EPS and OPS seeking removal of this seal and handover of office keys to them.
High Court judge N. Satish Kumar, who heard the case, ordered the key of the AIADMK chief’s office to be handed over to Palaniswami. He also ordered that no volunteers should be allowed inside the AIADMK headquarters for a period of one month and adequate police protection should be provided. Subsequently, the key was handed over to Palaniswami.
O. Panneerselvam has appealed to the Supreme Court against the order of the single judge and against the revenue department handing over the keys to Palaniswami. The case will be heard soon. A caveat petition has been filed by Palaniswami in this case. The lawyers for EPS have filed a caveat petition saying that the order should not be passed without hearing the case.
