Dharmapuri: In Dharmapuri district, 2 elephant cubs are already suffering after losing their mother in an electrical accident, now one more elephant cub is suffering after being separated from its mother.
A farmer named Murugesan had illegally erected an electric fence on his land to prevent wild animals from entering the agricultural land and damaging the crops in the area next to Pihakkottai in Palakodu circle of Dharmapuri district. 1 male and 2 female elephants who passed by in the early morning of last 7th got trapped in this electric fence and died. Meanwhile, 2 baby elephants that came with these elephants luckily survived.

The two cubs, aged 2 and 1 years respectively, are wandering in the same area, saddened by the loss of their mother elephants. The Madras High Court has directed the Forest Department to take steps to protect these cubs and ensure their future. Therefore, a team of forest department camped with veterinarians in the area and have been monitoring the baby elephants for the last 5 days. Also, the forest department officials are discussing and planning to include the baby elephants in their natural habitat.
While these 2 baby elephants are suffering, one more baby elephant is separated from its mother in Dharmapuri district. Bennagaram circle Bennagaram forest area is home to more than 50 elephants. A 1-year-old baby elephant, which was part of a group of elephants that roam in separate groups, got separated from the group a few days ago. Knowing this, the forest department has taken the cub to an area where elephants move a lot.

However, there is a situation where the cub cannot find and join the group that its mother is in. The little one who was suffering like this has migrated to the village of Neerkundi near the forest. At that time, he fell into a well in an agricultural land. After getting the information, the forest department, fire department team and villagers rescued the cub today (11th) by tying a rope.
The rescued baby elephant was taken to Bodur, the next river basin area. On the orders of the District Forest Officer, Appala Naidu, a shade pavilion is set up and maintained for the baby elephant. A team led by forest department veterinarian Prakash is treating the cub. The district forest officer has ordered the forest department personnel involved in the operation to reunite this baby elephant, which is suffering from separation from its mother, in Dharmapuri district.
