Chennai: The Food Department has instructed the field officers to inquire whether the well-to-do and VIPs are buying products from ration shops and submit a report.
A review meeting was held in Chennai on the 2nd under the leadership of Food Minister A. Chakrapani. Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Commissioner of Food Supply and others participated in this meeting. In this, various instructions have been given to the Deputy Registrar of Public Distribution Schemes, District Distribution Officers.
In that, the field officers should investigate whether the well-to-do and prominent personalities are buying essential items from ration shops and submit a report. Check whether the quality and weight of the goods are correct. When irregularities are found against the shopkeepers, further action should be taken against them even if the amount is refunded.
Full physical examination for sellers and builders should be done by government hospitals.
Whitewashing of shops, repair of electrical equipment, necessary logistics and minor repairs should be done by contacting NGOs for reconstruction.
Ooty tea, government salt, khadi products, palm jaggery should be purchased and sold on a monthly basis and sales should be increased every month.
During the rainy season, the bundles should not be placed on the ground, but should be placed on top of them using wooden planks. A proposal for separation of stores with more than 1,000 family cards should be sent.
Disciplinary action should be taken against the vendors involved in food smuggling and severe punishment should be given. E-commerce issues related to point of sale machine repairs should be recorded in the appropriate register and repaired along with it.
Senior citizens who come to get essential items should give priority to differently abled persons.
Prizes should be given to the best sellers by August 15 this year. Funds for sellers should be disbursed promptly. Thus the instructions are given.
