The post-poll violence victim Abhijit Sarkar‘s funeral rites were performed today. The first victim of post-poll violence was brutally killed in Kolkata’s Narkeldanga in front of his house in May and the family received the body after four months.
“It is unfortunate that inhuman treatment has been meted out to the victims of post-poll violence and even after his death, it took four months to get his body. He was killed brutally outside his house and the body underwent two post-mortem only after HC order. He didn’t even get justice after death as he was from opposition and BJP went to court to get his body,” BJP state President Dilip Ghosh said after attending his funeral.
Four months after his death, mortal remains of deceased BJP worker Abhijit Sarkar, who was allegedly killed in post-poll violence in Kolkata’s Narkeldanga area were handed over to the kin on September 9.
“It is sad that Abhijit’s mother has to see his funeral rites and undergo such pain,” Ghosh added.
In July, a five-judge bench of the Calcutta high court ordered a DNA test of Sarkar, which was matched with samples collected from his brother Biswajit. The Central Forensic Laboratory was directed to do the DNA matching. CBI, during its investigations, has visited his house and recorded his brother and mother’s statement.
