Subbulakshmi Jegatheesan, born to farmer V.S. Chinnusamy and Ankatthal couple of North Pudupalayam village in Kodumudi taluk, Erode district, worked as a teacher in a government aided school in Kodumudi. He was interested in politics and was initially involved in AIADMK. In the 1977 assembly election, Subbulakshmi Jegatheesan became the Minister of Textiles and Khadar after contesting on behalf of AIADMK in the Modakurichi constituency.

Subbulakshmi Jegatheesan, a supporter of Nanjil Manokaran, who was the finance minister of the then AIADMK cabinet, left the AIADMK with Nanjil Manokaran after the AIADMK’s defeat in the parliamentary elections held in 1980 and both joined the DMK.
In 1989, he won the assembly elections from Erode constituency and took charge of the social welfare department in the DMK cabinet. MLA from Modakurichi from 1996 to 2001 and MP from Tiruchengode in 2004. He won the constituency and held the post of Union Joint Minister in the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment. .
Subbulakshmi Jagatheesan contested in 1984, 2011 and 2021 assembly elections and lost. It can be said that Subbulakshmi’s political life, which was full of ups and downs, was defeated in the 2021 Modakurichi constituency, which ended her political life.
There is an allegation among the DMK that Subbulakshmi Jagatheesan is getting a chance to contest the elections only by engaging in kitchen cabinet politics. There is dissatisfaction among DMK members that he is working hard, spending and working hard for the party, setting aside many important points of the DMK and using his closeness with the family of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi, especially through his friendship with Karunanidhi’s daughter Ms.
Whenever the DMK leadership announces him as a candidate, it has become a habit for his own party to be dissatisfied and engage in internal work against him.
Subbulakshmi Jagatheesan, who is now 75 years old, was announced as the DMK candidate for the assembly elections held in 2021. Dr. CK Saraswati contested against him on behalf of BJP. Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan and the DMK have been slow in the election work due to over-confidents that BJP candidate Saraswathi will not be able to win. BJP candidate Saraswathi, who had planned and worked properly in this contest reminiscent of the story of the hare and the tortoise, eventually won by defeating Subbulakshmi Jagatheesan by a margin of just 280 votes.
After this election defeat Subbulakshmi Jagatheesan’s influence in the DMK started to decline. Subbulakshmi’s dissatisfaction with the party leadership was expressed through a poem written by her husband Jagatheesan.
The poem published by Jagatheesan has been circulating on social media for the last 10 days. However, Subbulakshmi Jagatheesan submitted her resignation letter to the party leadership on August 29.
In the letter, Subbulakshmi Jagatheesan pointed out the plight of the party leadership and the DMK regime, her close friends say.
Party members close to Subbulakshmi Jagatheesan said, “It is true that there is a cold war between a minister and Subbulakshmi Jagatheesan. Subbulakshmi Jagatheesan thought that she would get a decisive victory when the BJP fielded a candidate against her in the last 2021 elections.
