Union Health and Family Welfare Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written a letter to Tamil Nadu Public Welfare Principal Secretary Senthil Kumar saying, “In the past one month, an average of 2,044 new infections have been reported daily in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu accounts for 7.7% of India’s weekly new infections.
Compared to the week ended July 28, there has been a decline in the total number of tests conducted in the week ended August 4. People are also likely to witness various festivals and celebrations held in different parts of the country in the coming months. This leads to large numbers of people traveling interstate and congregating at specific locations. Due to this there is a possibility of corona spread.
Ensure that adequate testing is carried out in all districts of the state. Government should monitor effective infection management to prevent further spread of infection. Follow the central government guidelines and ensure regular monitoring.
In crowded places like markets, inter-state bus stands, schools, colleges, railway stations, etc., more attention should be paid to ensure that the Corona guidelines are followed. Expediting provision of free booster vaccination to all eligible persons and eligible persons above 18 years of age at all Government Covid Vaccination Centers till September 30,” the letter said.
