Chennai: Minister KKSSR Ramachandran said that due to the concerted efforts of Chief Minister Stalin, heavy rainfall has been prevented.
Revenue Minister KKSSR Ramachandran met the media regarding the rain damage at the State Emergency Control Center in Ezhilakam, Chennai. Speaking then, he said, “All disaster preparedness work is on standby in the nine districts that are likely to be affected due to heavy rains and opening of Cauvery river.
Dams are opened in such a way that the public is not affected. Affected people have been accommodated in relief camps 6109 people have been accommodated through 53 relief camps in nine districts. 4 faces have been set up in the Nilgiris district and the people have been kept safe there. The district administration is immediately providing food, drinking water and sanitation facilities to them.
Disaster response teams are operating in 11 teams in rain-prone districts. Out of which 348 soldiers have been distributed to 9 districts. Precautionary work is being done in that area under the direct supervision of the District Collector
Officials have been informed that dams should not be opened without prior notice. The Chief Minister has provided all arrangements to avoid loss of life due to flood. Due to the concerted efforts of the Chief Minister, massive damage has been prevented
Steps will be taken to provide alternative accommodation to people living in slums that may be on river banks. Power poles and fallen trees on roadsides are being removed immediately. “People should avoid taking selfies in flood areas,” the minister said.
