Hyderabad: Eight persons including two from Chennai were killed in a fire at an electric vehicle showroom in Telangana due to electrical leakage. Prime Minister Modi has condoled with the families of the deceased.
There is a 5-storied building opposite the Passport Office, on the Secunderabad Railway Station Road in Hyderabad, Telangana. There is a battery charging station on the ground floor and an electric bike showroom on the first floor. Ruby Pride Hotel has been operating on the site above it.

In this case, last Monday night at 10 o’clock due to electric leakage on the ground floor, the bike batteries that were being charged exploded. The fire immediately spread to the first floor. As a result, the battery bikes on the first floor caught fire. Later, the fire spread to the upper floor, creating a smoke zone. Locals who saw this informed the police and fire brigade.
In the meantime, some people staying at the hotel managed to escape by holding onto the pipes at the back of the toilet. But those who were sleeping on the first 2 floors suffocated due to heavy smoke and burnt to death. By this time fire tenders arrived and fought till midnight to put out the fire.
2 are residents of Chennai
Balaji (58), Seetharaman (48) from Chennai, Virendra Kumar (50) from Delhi, Rajiv Mike (26), Sandeep Malik (30), Harish (38) from Vijayawada and a woman died in the fire. They died tragically on the spot.
Also, 8 people were seriously injured. All were taken to Yashoda and Gandhi Government Hospitals for treatment. One person died of complications there. This took the death toll to 8.
When the Hyderabad police inspected the building where the fire occurred, they said, “The municipal administration has given permission to the building of Ruby Pride Hotel only for 4 floors. But, 5 floors have been built illegally. Also, the ground floor reserved for car parking has been used for repairing battery bikes and charging batteries. A battery bike showroom is running on the first floor. Initial reports suggest that the fire occurred due to the explosion of one of the bikes that were being charged at night on the lower floor. The owner of this building and the owner of the bike showroom have been arrested as it is an illegal construction. The investigation is ongoing. The police said.
Relief of Rs.5 lakhs
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi, who got the information about the fire, expressed his deepest condolences for the deceased. Also Rs. 2 lakhs and Rs. 50,000 financial assistance has also been announced.
Similarly, on behalf of the Telangana government, the families of the deceased will receive Rs. 3 lakh financial assistance and Rs 50 thousand each to the injured, Telangana Industries Minister Rama Rao has announced.
