Chennai: The ban on 6 most dangerous pesticides that cause suicides has been extended for another 60 days.
A highly toxic rat poison paste containing 3 percent yellow phosphorus has been permanently banned in Tamil Nadu. Following this, the Department of Agriculture had issued a 90-day ban on 6 pesticides, namely monocrotopos, profanopos, chlorpyrifos, profanopos cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos cyphermethrin, and acipate, which are dangerous pesticides that cause suicides.

A permanent ban on these 6 pesticides should be issued by the central government. Efforts are being made for that. In this case, as the ban period for the above 6 pesticides is over, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered to extend the ban for another 60 days.
All these 6 pesticides are highly toxic. When used alone or in combination with other pesticides, they can endanger human or animal life. As a result, the sale, distribution and use of the above 6 pesticides along with other medicines is prohibited for another 60 days, according to Agriculture Department Secretary C. Samayamoorthy.
