The Election Commission of India has completed 400 elections with the recent assembly elections of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland. This includes 17 parliamentary elections and 16 presidential and vice presidential elections.

Subsequently, the Election Commission of India is planning to hold assembly elections in Karnataka in May. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with his team has made three tours in Karnataka to review the progress.

In this situation, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that “every election is a fire test for the Election Commission”. Responding to a question whether the people of Karnataka would trust the Election Commission for free and fair elections, Rajiv Kumar said, “In the last 70 years, India has solved its social, cultural, political, geographical, economic and linguistic problems peacefully and through negotiations.

Such a democracy is possible only because people trust the election results. However, for the Election Commission, every election is a litmus test,” he said.
