Due to the rivalry between Navjot Singh Sidhu who joined the Congress party and Amrinder Singh, he had to step down as Chief Minister before the end of his tenure. On November 2, he launched a new political party, the Punjab Lok Congress, in alliance with the BJP to contest the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.
His party contested in 28 out of 117 constituencies in the state of Punjab. However, he did not win a single constituency.
