New Delhi: DMK MP Kanimozhi N.V.N asked how much will be deducted if the flight is cancelled. To the question raised by Somu, Union Minister of State VK Singh has replied that “the government does not regulate the charges for canceling the trip”.
The first phase of the central budget meeting was concluded on 10th of last month. Following this, the second phase of the budget session began on Monday morning in both the Houses of Parliament. Somu questioned the limitation of airlines in charging cancellation fees to passengers when passengers booked for air travel cancel their tickets and when the airline itself cancels the particular flight.

To this, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh has said: “Government does not limit the fees for canceling a flight. But the Directorate of Civil Aviation has laid down the rules. Airlines and booking agents can determine how much cancellation fee will be charged while booking the flight ticket. It must be clearly stated that the statutory taxes, User Facility Charges, Airport Development Charges, Passenger Service Charges etc. collected at the time of booking the ticket shall be fully refunded to the passengers who cancel the booking and passengers who do not embark on the journey.
These terms and conditions apply to bookings made on the basis of festive and special offers. The base fare for the flight is non-refundable. Under no circumstances and under any circumstances shall the amount deducted for cancellation exceed the base fare and fuel cost. Ticket booking agents’ fees are non-refundable. All airlines are advised to strictly follow these regulations.

The flights were completely canceled during the period from March 25, 2020 to May 24, 2020 due to the Corona lockdown. The Directorate of Civil Aviation has directed all airlines to fully implement the Supreme Court’s judgment that all domestic and international passengers booked during that time should be refunded in full without any deductions.
Apart from this, the Directorate of Civil Aviation is also taking steps to take appropriate action by receiving direct complaints from passengers regarding air fares, late departures, denial of permission to travel and other services provided by airlines.
Apart from this, a digital platform named ‘Air Seva App’ has been created for domestic passengers who wish to report any issues related to their journey. If passengers report their complaints, arrangements have been made to take immediate action,” Minister VK Singh replied.
