New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry has issued instructions on what people should and should not do to prevent the spread of monkey pox in the country.
Monkey pox, a rare infectious disease caused by a virus, is spreading in many countries.
The first case of this in India was detected in Kerala’s Kollam district on July 14.
5 cases of monkey pox have been confirmed in Kerala so far. Similarly, 4 people have been diagnosed with this infection in the capital Delhi, taking the number of people affected by monkey pox in the country to 9. 5 of them are returnees from abroad.
Meanwhile, a monkey pox patient died last Saturday in Kerala. This is the first death from monkey pox in India.
Subsequently, the central government set up a task force to closely monitor the situation of monkey pox in the country and provide guidance to counter the spread of the disease. Niti Aayog Member (Health) VK Pal heads the committee.
In this case, Aadhar Poonawala, Chairman of Serum Vaccine Company in Pune, Maharashtra, met Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya yesterday.
Later, he told reporters, “The meeting with the minister was great as always. We are researching a vaccine for monkey pox. All arrangements are underway for vaccine preparation. I have explained this to the minister,” he said.
In this case, the Union Health Ministry has given some advice to the people to prevent the spread of monkey pox.
Here’s what people need to do:
A person infected with monkeypox should be isolated. Wash hands frequently with soap and water. Or use hand sanitizer.
Wear a face mask and disposable gloves when approaching the patient. The surrounding area should be kept clean using disinfectant.
Following are the don’ts: Bed, blanket, towel etc. of an infected person should not be used by others. Do not wash the patient’s clothes with other clothes. Public events should be avoided as soon as symptoms appear. Do not stigmatize sick or symptomatic people. Do not believe in rumor or false information.
Declaration of Emergency
In this case, a state of emergency has been declared in the state of California to prevent the spread of monkey pox. California is the third state in the United States to declare a state of emergency after New York and Illinois due to monkey pox.
