Chennai: Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that when India becomes a developed country in the world by 2047, it should be free of diabetes.
The 17th National Conference on Gestational Diabetes was held yesterday in Chennai on behalf of Gestational Diabetes Association. Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh, who was the special guest at the conference presided over by senior diabetes specialist V. Seshaiah, released a handbook on the findings and treatment methods of gestational diabetes.

Subsequently, Rajiv Chawla, Director, North Delhi Diabetes Medical Centre, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Conference Co-ordinating Secretary A. Shanmugam, Organization President Hema Diwakar and organization administrators participated in the conference.
In this, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said: By controlling gestational diabetes, we can prevent future effects on children. Our goal is to make India a developed country in the world by 2047. If gestational diabetes is controlled now, when India becomes a developed country, it will be free of diabetes.

Our research on diabetes should benefit the world. Therefore, more diabetes related researches and such conferences should be held. Awareness should be increased among the general public about gestational diabetes. The minister spoke thus.
Awareness for pregnant women: According to A. Shanmugam, Conference Coordinating Secretary and Diabetic Specialist, “Preventing the effects of gestational diabetes, controlling gestational diabetes at an early stage and preventing the effects on children is being continuously created.
The purpose of this conference is to prevent diabetes before it occurs. During the 10th week of pregnancy, insulin is secreted according to the sugar level of the mother. If you keep the sugar level right then, you can prevent the child from getting diabetes later on.”
