Srivilliputhur: In Srivilliputhur city, there is a risk of accidents due to the placards placed on the side of the national highway causing inconvenience to motorists.

There is heavy traffic on the Madurai-Kollam National Highway from Ramakrishnapuram to Madawar campus in Srivilliputhur town. There are many bends and narrow roads in this area due to the large number of placards placed along the bends and road junctions, causing the distraction of motorists and the risk of accidents.

Especially during festive seasons, temple festivals, birthday celebrations of political leaders, advertisements of private companies etc., plaks banners are placed on both sides of the road causing disruption to traffic.
Presently Srivilliputhur Periya Mariamman Temple Pookkuzhi festival is going on. Due to the daily procession of Swami and the Chariot ceremony, while the tree branches and electrical wires and cable wires are being removed from the roadside, people are facing various difficulties due to the placards placed on the roadside to cause accidents.

The citizens of Srivilliputhur town have demanded that the municipal administration should take action to remove the billboards placed on the roadside without permission.
