In this case, the Railway Board has taken steps to improve the ‘Gareeb Rath’ trains and provide economy AC class coaches at a low cost. Accordingly, it was decided to manufacture new coaches for these trains at Chennai ICF. In this case, the work of making train coaches has started.
In this regard, ICF Officials said:
Preparation of coaches for the ‘Poor Man’s Chariot’ trains known as ‘Gareeb Rath’ in ICF-Bill has started. All coaches in these trains will be air-conditioned triple-decker coaches. It is convenient to travel in air-conditioned train coaches at low fares. In the current production year i.e. by March next year, the target has been set to produce 723 air-conditioned economy coaches. Thus they said.
Conventional triple-decker air-conditioned coaches have only 72 berths. However, these coaches will have 83 beds.
Facilities in the coach
Unlike coaches in triple-decker air-conditioned trains, these coaches are equipped with separate air-conditioning for each sleeper. Also, each sleeper has separate mobile charging, reading lights and notification facilities. Besides, each compartment is equipped with surveillance cameras. There is extra space between the beds.
With economy class coaches, it is expected that more number of train passengers will benefit. It is noteworthy that these boxes are for the first time producing ICF-Bill.
