Tirupur: The District Collector has ordered the temporary cancellation of the license of a quarry while the farmer has continued his hunger strike for the 10th day in his garden demanding the cancellation of the license of the illegally operating private quarry.
A private quarry and gravel plant is operating at Kothumuttipalayam village, Palladam circle, Tirupur district. Exploding the rock with more explosives and digging to a greater depth is being done in violation of the government’s conditions. A complaint had been lodged with the District Collector regarding illegal sale of mineral resources for the past 15 years.

Farmer Vijayakumar has been on a fast for the past few days, despite petitioning several times to take action against the private kalquari, which is running with irregularities, but no action has been taken. He continued his hunger strike for the 10th day yesterday. Following him, a farmer belonging to the area has also started a hunger strike in his garden, alleging malpractice in another kalquari operating in Ottendotam.
Following the intensification of these two farmers’ struggle against Kalquari, various parties such as human rights organizations, agricultural associations, political parties and villagers have been meeting in person and continuing to show their support. Meanwhile, Tirupur District Collector Vineeth has ordered to temporarily cancel the license of a quarry. Also, the District Collector said that in the matter of Kalquari, an audit will be conducted by the district-level monitoring committee headed by the District Collector of Palladam and a report will be submitted tomorrow (September 10) and appropriate action will be taken based on the report of the said committee.
Despite the temporary cancellation of the quarry license, farmer Vijayakumar continued to protest. In this regard, he said, “The protest can be withdrawn only after seeing the copy of the order that the officer has given. The order letter has not yet been received. So the struggle continues,” he said. In this case, as Vijayakumar has been on a continuous fast for the 10th day, the medical team is continuously monitoring his health.
