Police fitness test begins in Puducherry; Minister advised not to take shortcut

Puducherry: Puducherry Police Department received online applications for filling 253 constable and 26 driver posts. Out of this, 14 thousand 173 people applied for the guard posts and 881 people applied for the driver posts. Out of which 14 thousand 45 candidates were eligible and 877 applications were accepted for driver jobs.

The physical fitness test for them started today at the Korimedu police ground. 500 people were called for the exam on the first day. The examination was inaugurated by Minister Namachivayam in person. Then the certificate is verified. After that the fitness test was held. Chest, height and weight were checked. Then 800 meters race, long jump and high jump were conducted. The exam will be held till 31st.

It was investigated by ATGP Ananda Mohan and IG Chandran. All the examinations conducted at the police ground are monitored by CCTV. Police constable exam will be held from 27th to 30th. Physical fitness test for drivers will be held on 31st.

Minister Namachivayam later told the press after visiting the selection: “The Puducherry government has taken a policy decision to fill the vacant posts and selected 390 constables in the police department in an honest manner last year. They are undergoing training and are ready to work very soon. At present, steps have been taken to fill 356 constable posts, out of which 85 members of the Home Guard are to be recruited through direct recruitment. Apart from that 18 people are going to be included in this work on successor basis. Apart from these, the physical fitness test for 253 people has started today.

The government has made it possible for the eligible people to get it in an honest manner. So no one should follow any shortcut. Don’t be fooled by middlemen. In the next phase, 200 Coast Guard, Home Guard and 60 Sub-Inspectors of Police will be selected. It will be better to maintain law and order in the future by employing qualified people in the police force. So, I wish all those participating in the physical aptitude test and the written test to pass,” he said.
