Puducherry: Public Works Minister Lakshminarayanan has said that steps will be taken to increase the fishing ban relief from Rs.5,500 to Rs.6,500 in Puducherry.
Public Works Minister Lakshminarayanan responded after the discussion on grant requests in the Puducherry Legislative Assembly today and said: “The barrage work along with Chellippattil basin dam across the Sankaraparani river will be carried out by the end of November this year at a cost of Rs. 20 crores. Drainage and overflow drains will be dug and rainwater will be collected in lakes. Steps will be taken to increase the fishing ban relief to fishermen from Rs.5,500 to Rs.6,500. A pension of Rs 1,000 will be given to senior citizens in the coming months.

The funeral allowance for fishermen receiving old age allowance will be increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000. Fishermen Information Service Centers will be established in all fishing villages in Puducherry. A Tsunami Memorial will be set up at a cost of Rs.40 lakh.
Project reports will be prepared and sent for the approval of the Central Government for the development of infrastructure in the Fishery Welfare Department at Rs.850 crore. After the approval of the central government, a fishing landing will be set up at a cost of Rs 17.92 crore at Nallavadu, Rs 17.17 crore at Periyakalapat and Rs 53 crore at Arikanmet.
At the confluence of Arianguppam river at a cost of Rs 87.58 crore, at Vambakeerapalayam at a cost of Rs 19.82 crore and at Karaikal at a cost of Rs 81.82 crore at the south side of the Arasar river. Steps are being taken to construct a barrier wall to prevent sea erosion in the coastal villages from Murthikuppam to Pudukuppam.
Steps will be taken to install geo-tubes to prevent sea erosion. Steps will be taken to set up an integrated water park at the Krumambakkam lake at a cost of Rs 210 crore. Steps are being taken to upgrade Puducherry and Karaikal fishing ports at a cost of Rs 66.40 crore.
A fishing landing stage will be constructed at a cost of Rs 19.50 crore at Panitpattu. An integrated model fishing village will be set up at a cost of Rs.7.50 crore. Expansion of Puducherry Airport, Rehabilitation of Heritage Buildings and Monuments, Kalapathi, Pondy Marina, Veerambattinam,
Beach development in Karaikal, Murthikuppam, riverfront development in Mahe and Enam, Arikanmedu development, spiritual tourism development. PDTC employees will be promoted.
Steps will be taken to set up a Madras High Court branch in Puducherry. A bridge and a road around the lake will be constructed in the Bagur lake at a cost of Rs 8 crore. In Karaikal, drinking water pipes will be replaced at a cost of Rs.70 crore. Natesan Nagar, Arumbarthapuram bypass will be laid at a cost of Rs.33.44 crore. Steps will be taken to re-employ voucher employees in the Public Works Department,” said the Minister of Public Works.
