New York: Russia has banned 500 people, including former President Obama, in response to US economic sanctions.
After Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, many European countries imposed economic sanctions on Russia. The US imposed more economic sanctions on Russia. Also, the United States recently denied a visa to the Russian foreign minister to attend a United Nations meeting. It is in this context that Russia’s ban has been announced.

In a statement released by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “500 Americans, including former US President Obama, are banned from entering Russia.”
American Wall Street Journalist Ivan Gershkovich was arrested in Russia last March on suspicion of espionage in Russia. In this situation, the US Embassy approached Russia for talks regarding the arrest. However, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has now said that it is rejecting this request of the United States.

The G7 Summit will be held in Hiroshima, Japan till 21st. Following this, world leaders including the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Britain, and Germany have visited Japan. Ukrainian President Zelensky will attend the main event of the G7 summit on Sunday. This has been confirmed by the Government of Ukraine. With Zelensky in attendance, additional sanctions are expected to be imposed on Russia at the G7 summit.
