Chennai: Under the Central Government’s ‘One Station One Product’ scheme, stalls for sale of weavers, artisans’ works and manufactured goods are to be set up at 483 railway stations in the Southern Railway.
The central government introduced the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme to encourage local business and popularize the work of artisans and weavers. Under this scheme, Kanchipuram silk saree sales hall was set up on 25th March 2022 at Chennai Central railway station in Southern Railway.

Following this, various halls were gradually set up in many railway stations as well. So far, Southern Railway has set up halls in more than 90 railway stations in 6 divisions namely Chennai, Trichy, Madurai, Salem, Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram.
A total of 350 products such as agricultural products, milk, food, handicrafts, handlooms, textiles and tribal works are sold in these halls. It also includes silk sarees from Kanchipuram, Arani, Thiruvananthapuram, Thanjavur paintings, Ranipet leather products. This resulted in a total sale of Rs.7.64 crores.

In this case, it has been decided to set up such sales halls in more railway stations in Southern Railway. Southern Railway officials said:
Through the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme, backward sections of the society are allowed to set up halls at railway stations for 15 days by paying a minimum fee of Rs 1,000. After 15 days, you can renew and do business again. By this, they are earning certain income.
Initially, stalls of local artisans, weavers and self-help groups were set up at 94 railway stations. It is well received. Therefore, this scheme is going to be implemented in 483 stations in all 6 divisions of Southern Railway namely 133 stations in Chennai Railway Division, 95 in Madurai, 93 in Trichy, 41 in Salem, 65 in Thiruvananthapuram and 56 in Palakkad.

Those who are willing to set up sales hall at railway stations can apply. The fixed outlets will be set up based on a design developed by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. Thus they said.
