Puducherry: “Puducherry State Transport Minister Chandra Priyanka said Shakti e-Auto will be provided with 100 per cent subsidy to encourage self-employment for scheduled caste and tribal women.
After the discussion on the grant request in the Puducherry Legislative Assembly today, Transport Minister Chandra Priyanka replied: “Last year, a total of Rs 414 crore was allocated to 23 departments out of which Rs 333.50 crore was spent. Rs 172.44 crore was allocated to the Adi Dravidian Welfare and Tribal Welfare Department. 142.86 Crores have been spent in this. A State Level Development Monitoring Committee will be set up to monitor the Special Component Fund. Land has been identified for providing free land plots to 29 tribal families living in Kalapattu block. Steps are being taken to provide free land plots. The pending beneficiaries will be given housing subsidy immediately.

Students will be given education loan soon. Also, students studying abroad are given a maximum education loan of Rs.10 lakh. In order to encourage self-employment of Scheduled Caste and Tribal women, Shakti e-Auto will be provided with 100% subsidized training to drive autos through the Transport Department. A special component fund of Rs.1 crore will be allocated for this purpose. Luxury buses will be provided to Chennai, Tirupati, Coimbatore with private contribution.
It is also proposed to increase inter-state traffic in consultation with Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Old and unrepairable buses in PRTC will be audited and sold and the funds will be used to purchase new vehicles.
Public transport will be improved by immediate rerouting and rescheduling of passenger bus services, a long-pending issue.
To promote women auto driving and further ensure the safety of women passengers, free driving training and permit will be issued to women drivers. A driving training center will be set up in Puducherry and a Zonal Driving Training Center in Karaikal at an estimated cost of Rs.22 crore through central government funding. Driving training and automatic driving test will be conducted through these centres.
For conversion of diesel and petrol vehicles to CNG and battery powered vehicles, appropriate retro kit fitting centers will be allowed. Pollution Control Certificates will be issued through Mobile Centres. An online portal will be created for tourists to rent two wheelers, three wheelers and four wheelers online.
A mobile application will be developed for women workers in factories to express their grievances and complaints without any fear. Infrastructure will be improved in all libraries. Librarian vacancies will be filled soon. Additional applications are welcome and Kalaimamani, Tamilmamani and Telugu Ratna awards will be awarded soon. “Steps will be taken to set up a one-man judge commission to resolve the problems of the residents of Swatanthi Ponvizha Nagar,” the minister said.
