Sivakasi: Officials said that while the Thamirapharani project has been completed in Sivakasi Corporation, Rajapalayam Municipality, steps are being taken to provide 135 liters of drinking water per person per day.
Sivakasi Corporation has 38,670 drinking water connections. At present, more than 80 lakh liters of drinking water is being distributed in the Corporation through Manur Joint Drinking Water Project, 21 lakh liters through Vembakkottai Dam and 28 lakh liters through local water sources. Drinking water is distributed at the rate of 60 liters per person per day.

To meet the drinking water needs of Sivakasi Corporation, the Thamirapharani Joint Drinking Water Project was launched at a cost of Rs.170 crores. For this, a pipeline was laid from Sankarankovil, Tenkasi district. A water station was constructed at Vembakota and overhead water tanks at Sivakasi. In Sivakasi, drinking water pipes were installed in all the streets including the main roads and a trial run was also conducted. Tamil Nadu Drinking Water Supply Project Joint Managing Director Saravanan personally inspected the completed drinking water project works.
In Rajapalayam municipality, 80 lakh liters of drinking water is available daily through Mutangiyar drinking water. This water is supplied to 28,000 drinking water connections at the rate of 61 liters per person per day. In this case, in the year 2018, the Thamirapharani joint drinking water project was started at a cost of Rs.197.79 crore. In this project, pipe laying works have been completed and drinking water connection has been provided to the houses. For this, 14 new overhead water tanks have been set up.

Meanwhile, Ministers K.N. Nehru, Chatur Ramachandran and Thangam Tennarasu inaugurated the distribution of drinking water in the Thamirabarani joint drinking water project worth Rs. Through this, Sivakasi Corporation is getting 80 lakh liters of drinking water daily. Commissioner N. Sankaran said that 135 liters of clean drinking water will be provided per person per day.
At present drinking water is distributed every 4 days in Rajapalayam Municipality. At present, 1.30 crore liters of drinking water is available daily through the Thamirapharani joint drinking water scheme. Through this, drinking water will be distributed daily in the municipality and 135 liters of drinking water per person will be provided daily. Municipal commissioner Parthasarathy said that steps are being taken to provide Thamirapharani drinking water to all without interruption in a month.
