Puducherry: The AIADMK has demanded that the governor inform the people of the central government’s stand on the issue of granting statehood to Puducherry.
Regarding this, Puducherry State AIADMK Secretary Anbazagan told the media today (March 11): “It seems that the BJP is playing a double role in Puducherry’s legitimate demand for statehood. About 3 months ago, the BJP leader made a contradictory statement regarding statehood.

A BJP MLA has given a false opinion in the assembly that Karaikal, Mahe and Enam regions will be separated from Puducherry if Puducherry gets statehood during the ongoing legislative session. MLAs from any political party including DMK, Congress and NR Congress did not give a proper explanation for this wrong idea. Why can’t we administer Puducherry, which is a union territory, if statehood is given to Puducherry, which includes 4 regions, in this situation where the Union Home Ministry can govern the union territory from Delhi till date.
MLAs should pass a resolution unanimously in this legislative session to take a firm stand on statehood. So far the resolution has been passed 13 times and sent to the central government through the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. All resolutions so passed are shelved. Therefore, the Chief Minister should take a concrete and constructive step to unanimously pass the resolution to get state status in the ongoing Legislative Assembly session and send it to the Central Government through the approval of the Lt. Governor. The Lt. Governor should inform the people about the central government’s stand on the issue of granting statehood to Puducherry. BJP should also inform about the position of the state BJP.
The virus has increased in Puducherry due to mosquito infestation and children to adults have been affected. More than 500 people have been affected by dengue in just one month. In Puducherry Hospital, due to lack of adequate infrastructural facilities for the infected people, most of the patients are forced to sleep on the floor and 3 patients per bed.

The health department should take appropriate action in this regard. Primary health centers across the state should be made 24 hours a day. At least 30 beds should be provided in each health facility. The government should take action on a war-time basis to eliminate mosquito infestation in the entire Puducherry state. Special camps should be set up with medical experts. The government should take wartime measures to set up special camps in non-functional government buildings and sports grounds, he said.
