New Delhi: It has been reported that the ‘National Talent Search Scheme (NTSS)’ for school students has been discontinued from the year 2021. Regarding this, Villupuram MP. Union Minister of State for Education Anna Poorna Devi answered the question raised by D. Ravikumar.
In a question raised by D. Ravikumar, MP from Villupuram Lok Sabha Constituency, ‘The National Talent Search Scheme (NTSS) is a scheme to inculcate scientific spirit among school students and develop them as scientists. Has NTSS helped NCERT identify talented students? Is the government continuing the NTSS scheme? If not, what are the reasons for its discontinuation?’ He had asked.

Union Minister of State for Education Annapoorna Devi gave a reply to this in the Lok Sabha today, “NTSS has helped NC ERT to identify talented students. Many of the NTSS awardees are working in leading positions in various reputed organizations across the globe. NTSS is a Union Government scheme fully funded by the Ministry of Education. The NTSS was approved to continue in its current form till March 31, 2021.
Also, it has been decided to redesign the scheme to ensure that the objective of identifying and nurturing talent is effectively met,” he said.

Along with his reply, the Union Minister of State for Education had also submitted in the Lok Sabha the number of students selected under the scheme every year from 2019 to 2021. Of this, 2103 students were selected for the scholarship in 2018-19, 2060 in 2019-20 and 2033 in 2020-21. In this too reservation system was followed under various classes.
On this, Villupuram MP C. Ravikumar said, ‘The BJP government, which has abolished scientific thinking in education and imposed religious ideas, has stopped this project to develop scientific thinking among school students. They are saying that they are going to change it without admitting that it has been stopped,” he said.
