New Delhi: Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhara Rao and a member of the upper house of the PRS party, went on a hunger strike in Delhi yesterday demanding the passage of the 33% reservation bill for women in the current parliamentary session.
Leaders of various parties including CPM, Aam Aadmi Party, Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray, Jammu Kashmir People’s Democratic Party and Akali Dal participated in the protest held at Ainder Mandar in Delhi. The protest, which was led by Kavita, was launched by senior leader of the Communist Party of the Communist Party of India Sitaram Yechury. He mentioned that CPM will support Kavita until this bill is passed. Kavitha had also invited the Congress party to participate in this protest. With next year’s parliamentary elections, Kavita’s initiative has gained attention in the political arena.

Kavita said, “For India to progress, the participation of women in politics should increase. The bill providing 33% reservation for women has been pending for 27 years. The BJP had promised to pass this bill in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. But the BJP has failed to fulfill that promise,” he said.
The Enforcement Department summoned Kavita to appear on the 9th for the investigation related to the Delhi Liquor Policy Scam. Kavita sought exemption to appear in person on that date in view of the reservation protest. Subsequently, as per the order of the Enforcement Department, Kavita is present in the case today.
