Puducherry: “In the context of the increasing number of cancer patients, I will urge the Union Health Minister to build a cancer treatment center in Puducherry, for which the central government will provide financial support,” said Lok Sabha member Vaithilingam.
Regarding this, Puducherry Congress MP Vaithilingam told reporters today: “The number of cancer patients in Puducherry is increasing day by day. Especially women and the elderly are affected more. They do not get treatment. In Jipmar, there is a waiting period of several months for chemotherapy and radio therapy. In many cases, patients have to wait for up to 6 months. .Many patients die during this period.

Thus the Puducherry government should build a treatment center for cancer patients. The central government should provide financial support for this. I am going to meet the Union Health Minister and insist on this. A vaccine has been discovered to prevent cancer. This vaccine should be administered to women in Puducherry. The general management committee meeting was scheduled to be held on the 18th at Jipmar. This meeting has been postponed. As a member of the committee I am going to participate and talk about the shortcomings.
Recently I spoke to the director of JIMMER. He has assured that he will procure medicines and take steps to fill the vacant posts. I have also insisted that medicines prescribed by doctors should be available everywhere in Jipmar apart from stock medicines. I have inquired about not providing proper treatment in Jipmar to people from Puducherry who have insurance card under Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Since the private insurance company, which was there before last June, did not pay the dues, it was difficult to get treatment not only in Jipmar but also in various private hospitals. The government has taken up the insurance scheme after June. “The chief minister should take action against people who are harmed by private insurance companies,” he said.
