Krishnagiri: More than 600 bulls took part in the bull slaughtering ceremony held at Mutukukki village near Barikai.

On the occasion of the Pongal festival, an ox-killing ceremony was held yesterday in Mudukukki village near Parikai in Choolagiri district. The bulls participating in the ceremony were decorated and their horns were tied with cash gifts on various plates. At the beginning of the festival there was cow-pooja to the bulls. Then each bull was untied from the ceremonial pad. There was a competition between the youths to snatch the cash prizes tied to the horns of the bulls.

The young men were excited as they snatched the gifts from the bulls. Some of the bulls ran away without being caught by the youths. With this, the owners of the bulls were happy. Some of the bulls entered the spectator area, causing minor injuries to the bulls.
