Perambalur: An engineering graduate youth from Perambalur district is teaching the traditional arts of Tamils such as Kolattam and Wailattam for free to the younger generation.
Nallamanickam (28) hails from Thondappadi village of Veppanthatta district of Perambalur district. He is an engineering graduate and is working from home as an employee in a private company. He has been teaching the traditional arts of Tamils such as Kolattam and Wailattam for free for the last 8 months to the young generation.

The art troupe of boys and girls trained by him won the first place in kolatam and 2nd place in yoilatam in the state-level art competition held in Chennai last January.
Nalla Manikam told ‘Hindu Tamil’ newspaper about this: My great grandfathers Nallaperumal and Chellappillai taught me Kolattam and Wailatam. It was sad that the traditional arts of Tamils, Kolattam and Wailattam, were disappearing.

After Corona I got an opportunity to work from home in a private company and in my spare time I am teaching these arts to the growing generation. Around 30 people were trained in the first phase. I give training every evening from 6 pm to 9 pm in Thondapadi village. With dedicated practice you can learn this art in 3 months. So far 110 people have been trained.
Composing awareness songs condemning social evils like child marriage, violence against women, child labour, drug addiction and developing good qualities such as social harmony, humanity, donating blood, following traffic rules, cleaning, maintaining hygiene, improving the environment, using water sparingly, He said that he is also trying to bring them to the masses through Kolatam and Yolatam.
