Dehradun: Purushottam, an IAS officer, commutes to office on a bicycle every day. He said that the reason for this is the increasing environmental pollution.
He said that when he worked in the capital Delhi, he switched to a bicycle because he faced the seriousness of air and noise pollution there. Because of that, he uses a bicycle to commute from his home to office and back home every day on working days.
The distance between his house and office is about 8 kilometers. He said that it takes only 5 to 7 minutes more than the time taken by car. For the past two months, he has been following the habit of coming to office by bicycle.
“Since last June 7, I have been going to the office on a bicycle. I will undertake this journey by wearing a helmet. I am able to leave early and arrive on time without the stress of rushing to the office in the mornings. Similarly, bicycle is the right choice for traffic problems in the evenings.
Not only the 16 km distance to and from the office, I practice cycling for 20 km in the mornings. It helps me to keep fit as I work from a sedentary position. People who live in cities must cycle to office at least a few days a week. Through that, we can find some solution to the pollution,” he says.
Currently he is working as Chief Program Director in Uttarakhand Integrated Cooperative Development Program Office.
