AGS has announced that Venkat Prabhu will direct ‘Vijay 68’. The film is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Ever since the announcement was made, the anticipation among the fans for the film has been increasing. Yuvan Shankar Raja, who has been announced as the music director of the film, has a very important role in this anticipation. After exactly 20 years, Yuvan got a chance to join a Vijay film. Yuvan had composed the music for the 2003 KP Jagan-directed film ‘Phuthiya Geetha’.
Vijay – Ajith, Ilayaraja – Yuvan: There is an interesting bond between actors Vijay and Ajith and music composers Ilayaraja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. Although Yuvan’s father and music composer Ilayaraja has composed music for a few of actor Vijay’s films, the songs from the films are celebrated not only by Vijay fans but also by many fans in general. Out of which films like ‘Kathallu Chima’ and ‘Friends’ were blockbuster hits. All the songs of those films were super hits. But for actor Ajith, Ilayaraja’s music has not been such a blockbuster hit movie and the songs that are always sung and enjoyed by the common fans has been a drawback. There is only one song, ‘Yaaro Yar Yaro’ from the movie ‘Ullasaam’, sung by Ilayaraja for Ajith. But, the music composer of that film was Karthikaraja.

Account changed to ‘Ulta’… – This account turned into Ulta and Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed music for a few of actor Ajith’s films. In those films, not only the songs but also the background music were much talked about. Especially Yuvan’s theme music for Ajith’s introduction scenes and mass scenes are celebrated not only by Ajith fans but also by everyone. The films ‘Billa’ and ‘Mangatha’ released by this alliance were very successful. All the songs of those films were super hits. But actor Vijay continues to be disappointed that Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is not the same. This is the relationship between 4 people, Ilayaraja Vijay and Yuvan Ajith.
Ilayaraja and Vijay: When Vijay and Ajith were well known to Tamil cinema fans, i.e. when they were growing up, many composers composed music for their films. Music composer Deva contributed significantly to both the films. Ajith and Vijay’s 1995 movie ‘Rajavin Praviyile’ was released. Ilayaraja composed the music for the film. The songs ‘Amman Kovil Sami’ and ‘Oru Sudar Iru Sudar’ from the film remain in the memory of the fans till now. In the same year, the songs ‘Alla Un Aanepadi’ and ‘Arumbhum Thalire’ from Vijay’s ‘Chandraleka’, released in the same year with Ilayaraja’s music, have captured the hearts of many fans.

Effect of Respect on Love – The 1997 film ‘Kadalluku Chiamsa’ was released in that order. AR Rahman’s arrival attracted the youth of the 90s. But the huge success of the movie ‘Kadaalulku Mishma’ and the impact of the songs of the film became the biggest coup for the warrior lion Ilayaraja. This was followed by the 2000 film Kannukule Nilavu in Ilayaraja Vijay combo. Although the film was not a commercial success, all the songs featured in the film are among the all-time favorites of fans till date. Next came the 2001 film ‘Friends’ in the Ilayaraja-Vijay alliance. All the songs in this film were excellent. It is such a huge hit that there is no one who is unaware of its success.
Continuity Cons: Ajith and Vijay’s song in the movie ‘Rajavin Praviyile’ released in the year 1995 with the music of Ilayaraja was composed for Vijay, so Ajith’s song in that film was not well received by the fans. Subsequently, Ilayaraja had composed the music for the film ‘Thodarum’ which was released in 1999 starring Ajith. The film was not a hit as expected and the songs also failed to gain much traction. However, Ajith’s films such as ‘Unaithedi’, ‘Wali’, ‘Ananda Parkate’, ‘Amarkalam’ and ‘Nee Tarwa Ena’ were released that year. Compared to the success and songs of these films, the ‘sequel’ film and songs did not reach the desired target.
Ajith and Yuvan: This calculation was completely reversed in the Ajith-Yuvan alliance. Yuvan, who made his debut as a music director in 1997 with the film ‘Aravindan’, released the film ‘Deena’ on Pongal in 2001 in association with Ajith. The fans decided to celebrate the movie where AK came in as ‘Thala’. The film and all the songs of the film were huge hits. Especially for Ajith, Yuvan would have rocked the theater by playing the theme music “Dinaku Dinaku Dina Deena”. Ajith-Yuvan alliance started from there.

The theme music that became the ringtone… – This was followed by the 2007 Ajith-Yuvan collaboration film ‘Billa’. The music of the film has been celebrated as much as the making style of the film and the stylish Ajith look. The songs and background score of the film took the film to another level. That background score especially for Ajith had become a permanent ringtone for many. In the same alliance, ‘Egan’, released in the following year, did not reach the fans as much as expected. So, we had to wait for the next three years to record huge hits like ‘Deena’ and ‘Billa’.
The duo reunited in 2011 for Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Mangatha’. ‘Mangatha’ pushed back all the mass films of Ajith that came till then. Yuvan will have splashed in the theme music for Ajith who plays Vinayak Mahadevan in this film. Also the songs of the film were huge hits. This film was a huge success for this partnership. Subsequently, Yuvan composed music for Ajith’s films including ‘Billa II’, ‘Arambam’, ‘Nerkonda Pravi’ and ‘Valimai’. In this, the movie ‘Arambam’ and the songs of the movie got a lot of attention. Yuvan had composed music only for the songs of ‘Valimai’.
‘New Gita’ – Yuvan, who had the opportunity to work with Ajith in so many films, did not get the opportunity to work with Vijay as much as his father Ilayaraja. His chance to team up with Ajith was not as good as Yuvan’s. In this context, after 20 years, Yuvan has got the opportunity to act with Vijay in his 68th film directed by Venkat Prabhu. Before this, Yuvan had composed the music for Vijay starrer ‘Puthiya Geetha’ released in 2003. However, the film did not register the expected success. At the same time, the songs like ‘Mercury Poove’, ‘Vasiyakari’ and ‘Annamala Thambi Inge Aaada Vandenta’ which appeared in the film were songs known to Vijay’s ardent fans but there is a widespread complaint that they did not reach the common fans. In the same year, the movie ‘Kadal Konden’ released in music by Yuvan was a huge musical hit.

Increasing Expectations: That year, Vijay’s films including ‘Vaseekara’ and ‘Thirumalai’, which were released with music by other composers, became hits and the songs of the film were well received by the fans. Also, actor Vijay saw many hits in the next 20 years with music by countless composers. Along with that, the songs in his film have become something that is celebrated and enjoyed by everyone, including children and women, beyond his ardent fans. Similarly, Yuvan also worked with various directors and gave many hits. Yuvan’s music and songs have charmed many people, especially the younger generation. So taking all this into consideration, many people are hoping that Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music and background music will be in the film ‘Vijay 68’ to overcome the widespread complaint that Vijay does not have a memorable hit song in Yuvan’s music.
