Pollachi: Kaleem, the Kumki elephant, who is being cared for in the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, was given a break from the forest department yesterday.
Supriya Sahu, Additional Principal Secretary, Forest Department yesterday inaugurated the newly constructed Anaimalayakam (Exploratory Centre) building of the Forest Department in Chethumadai area of Pollachi Forest Reserve of Anaimalai Tiger Reserve. Later, he visited a residential school for mountain people located in Tapsilip area of Ulandi Forest.

Kaleem, the Kumki elephant kept at the Kozhikode Elephant Camp, turned 60 years old and was given a break. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Conservator of Wildlife Srinivas Reddy, Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Field Director Ramasubramaniam, Deputy Directors Bhargav Teja, Tejaswi, Assistant Conservator of Forests Selvam and others participated in the event.
The forest department saluted Kaleem for his work. After retirement, Kaleem will not be given any work, the forest department said that Kaleem will be given complete rest and taken care of in the camp.
