100 percent tax rebate for electric vehicles – Tamil Nadu Government Ordinance issued

In India, an ordinance had already been issued to provide 50% tax concession on battery-powered two-wheelers and four-wheelers on non-traffic vehicles. In this case, 100 percent exemption has been ordered for all battery vehicles (electric vehicles) used as transport and non-transport vehicles.

The Tamil Nadu Transport Commission has also asked for an order to give 100 percent tax exemption to battery-powered vehicles in accordance with the Tamil Nadu Electric Vehicle Policy 2019.

In this situation, 100 percent tax exemption has been ordered for all battery operated vehicles from 01.01.2023 to 31.12.2025. The order does not require the approval of the Finance Department and exempts all battery vehicles using the powers conferred by Section 20 of the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1974.
