Apple MacBook Pro With Enhanced Display Resolution to Arrive Later This Year

Earlier this week, Apple released the seventh beta version of macOS Monterey. This iteration of the operating system was announced at the WWDC 2021. This iteration of the OS was expected to be available later this year alongside the M1X Macs that are rumoured for long. Now, an interesting development has been spotted via an internal system code, which shows that there could be support for two new Retina display resolutions. Perhaps, this could be from the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.

As cited by MacRumors, the latest beta version of the macOS Monterey operating system adds mentions of a couple of new display resolutions in the internal system code. These files contain a list of resolutions that are supported and are shown within the Graphics/Displays menu within the System Information app.

Apple MacBook Pro With Improved Resolutions

The internal system code supports two resolutions – 3024 x 1964 pixels and 3456 x 2234 pixels. As of now, there is no Mac with an in-built Retina display that is based on these above-mentioned resolutions. On the comparison front, the 13-inch MacBook Pro comes with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution while the existing 16-inch MacBook Pro model packs a resolution of 3072 x 1920 pixels. These might assume that the new resolutions might be aimed at new MacBook models as these are relatively higher than that of their previous generation models. These could be nearly close to 4K resolution that could be used by an iMac or external monitor.

With a higher resolution, the 14-inch Apple MacBook Pro could be an expected upgrade as there could be a larger screen. On the other hand, the 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro model is believed to get a better display in the upcoming version. The new screen resolutions should let the screen run at the native 2x Retina resolution. Notably, the current MacBook displays could be on a scaled resolution to minimise the size of the interface elements.

From these numbers, the pixel density per inch on the Apple MacBook Pro models could be increased from 227 ppi to 257 ppi. As per the existing reports, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro are rumoured to be unveiled later this year with a new design, M1X chip and improved graphics. Also, it is speculated to feature additional ports as compared to previous models.
