No matter how many advantages we have with this cell phone, there are also some problems. Chief among them are spam calls. We get at least a few calls every day asking for a loan, wishing for a gift, and begging for medical help. All such calls are from unknown numbers. This is unnecessary stress for us. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has implemented a new law to curb this.
The new law announced by TRAI is a law against unwanted calls and messages from totally-unknown numbers. This law is applicable to all telecom companies in India. The new rule requires all telcos to use AI spam filters in their call and SMS services. Under this, cell phone consumers will be protected from fraud and harassment. These filters identify and block any fake or advertising calls and messages. These types of calls and messages are often used by fraudsters and money laundering gangs. This new law is to prevent that. This Act has been brought into force from 1st May.
Under the Act, TRAI has directed all telecom companies including Airtel, Jio, Vodafone Idea and BSNL to use AI spam filters in their call and SMS services. TRAI has also asked telecom companies to identify mobile numbers frequently used by spammers and block them.
