What happened? A Twitter employee tweeted that WhatsApp Messenger and Microphone were running in the background while he was sleeping. He took a screenshot and shared it. Some of the users reported that they are also facing this kind of problem. In that tweet, Elon Musk had tweeted, ‘Believe nothing’. This has been denied by WhatsApp.
WhatsApp Description: “Users have full control over microphone settings. It may be provided by Android. It may be a bug. Google should investigate this. Users give microphone permission access to WhatsApp platform. It only allows video calling, voice calling and voice recording. “WhatsApp uses the microphone. It is protected by end-to-end encryption so it cannot be heard by the WhatsApp platform,” explained WhatsApp.

Users have full control over their mic settings
Once granted permission, WhatsApp only accesses the mic when a user is making a call or recording a voice note or video – and even then, these communications are protected by end-to-end encryption so WhatsApp cannot hear them

WhatsApp has faced privacy issues before. WhatsApp shared user data like phone number, device information, location, etc. with its parent company Meta. Whenever WhatsApp runs into a privacy issue, platforms like Telegram and Signal claim to offer more privacy to users. On the other hand, it seems that the facility of voice and video chat has been introduced on the Twitter site. With this, users can talk to anyone in the world without a mobile number, Musk said.
