New Delhi: The Central Department of Telecommunication has issued a warning and instruction to the public about scams related to the installation of cell phone towers.
A press release issued by the Union Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology has come to the notice of the Telecommunication Department that some unscrupulous companies, agencies and individuals are deceiving people and charging them money by making false promises of higher monthly rent in the name of installing cell phone towers.
People should be wary of such people. Similarly, people should keep the following things in mind

- TRAI is not directly or indirectly involved in leasing or renting premises for installation of cell phone towers.
- Department of Telecom, TRAI or its authorities do not issue “No Objection Certificate” for installation of mobile towers.
- Public should be very careful if any company, agency or individual asks for money to install cell phone towers. The company’s credentials should be verified.
- If anyone comes across such fraudulent activity, they can report it to the local police authorities.
